The Steinbrenner Warriors will challenge the Sumner Stingrays at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Steinbrenner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Steinbrenner proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Wesley Chapel 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since April 23, 2024.
Kelton Meares spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Mason Koumas was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.
Meanwhile, Sumner got themselves on the board against Brandon on Monday, but Brandon never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Eagles. The win continues a trend for the Stingrays in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Juan OValle looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Sumner is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-10 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sebastian Rodriguez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Sumner hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Steinbrenner is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sumner, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Steinbrenner hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sumner struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Steinbrenner couldn't quite get it done against Sumner in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
