The Walnut Ridge Scots pushed their score all the way to 62 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Lutheran East 68-62.
Walnut Ridge's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Marquis Lucas, who scored 21 points, and Dominique Aekins who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Deon Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Walnut Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Lutheran East, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Walnut Ridge will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Stivers School for the Arts at 3:30 p.m. As for Lutheran East, they will take on Villa Angela-St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
