Baseball Recap: Venice Beats Olympia for Their Eighth Straight Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Venice walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Olympia Titans with a sharp 11-1 victory on Thursday. Considering the Indians have won 14 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Venice got a massive performance out of Jonathan Mauro, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Mauro a new career-high in runs (two). Eddie Zaun was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Venice lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win was the eighth in a row for Venice, bringing their record up to 26-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Olympia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-18 record this season.

As of now, neither Venice nor Olympia have any future games scheduled.
