Basketball Recap: Colin Gawronski's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Metuchen over Highland Park

Metuchen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Highland Park Owls. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since February 15, 2024.

Metuchen's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colin Gawronski, who made all 5 shots he took for 14 points. What's more, Gawronski also racked up three boards, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Jason Woods, who went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Metuchen's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Highland Park, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-7.

Metuchen didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-26 win against Perth Amboy Vo-Tech on the 6th. As for Highland Park, they will take on Perth Amboy at 5:30 p.m. on February 13th. The timing is sure in Highland Park's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Perth Amboy has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
