Baseball Recap: Valencia Jaguars vs. St. Pius X Sartans
Valencia extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-14 in the process. They came up short against the St. Pius X Sartans, falling 9-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 on April 8th.
As for St. Pius X, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.
For St. Pius X's part, Nathaniel Miera looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The Sartans are undefeated when Miera allows one or fewer hits, but 9-11 otherwise.
At the plate, Joaquin Aragon was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. Michael Deller was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Coincidentally, Valencia and St. Pius X will both be playing Highland the next time they take the field. The Jaguars will host the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Sartans will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
