Baseball Recap: Santa Maria Has No Trouble Against Laton

Santa Maria won the last time they faced Laton and things went their way on Saturday too. The Santa Maria Saints were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Laton Mustangs. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Saints.

Julius Medina was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dominic Martin, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mateo Peinado, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Santa Maria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Santa Maria's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Laton, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Santa Maria is taking a road trip to challenge Carpinteria at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Carpinteria knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Santa Maria likes a good challenge. As for Laton, they will host Kern Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
