Soccer Game Preview: Wilson vs. Northview

The Wilson Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Northview Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Wilson's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Wilson is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against West Covina on Thursday. Wilson fell just short of West Covina by a score of 1-0.

Meanwhile, Northview came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.3 goals) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Colts 2-1. The win was all the more spectacular given the Vikings' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 629th, while the Colts are ranked 288th).

Northview pushed their record up to 10-8-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those four matches. As for Wilson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Everything went Wilson's way against Northview in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Wilson made off with a 4-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wilson since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
