Basketball Recap: Morgan Ortega's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Alamosa over Pagosa Springs

After flying high against Montezuma-Cortez last Saturday, Alamosa came back down to earth. The Alamosa Mean Moose came up short against the Pagosa Springs Pirates on Friday, falling 59-38. The defeat continues a trend for the Mean Moose in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost three in a row.

Several Mean Moose players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Morgan Ortega, who posted eight points. Aubrey Rothermich was another key player, putting up eight points.

Pagosa Springs' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elizabeth Currier, who put up 18 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Karsyn Shahan, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Alamosa's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for Pagosa Springs, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-4.

Alamosa has already played their next contest, a 66-43 win against Pueblo Centennial on the 25th. As for Pagosa Springs, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 69-47 victory against Montezuma-Cortez on the 25th.
