Baseball Game Preview: Wabash Apaches vs. Eastern Comets

The Wabash Apaches will challenge the Eastern Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wabash comes in on three and Eastern on ten.

Wabash saw some tournament action on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over West Noble. That's two games straight that the Apaches have won by just one run.

Haiden McWhirt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wabash let Keaton Lane and Derek Reed run wild. Lane went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Reed went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

North Miami typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Eastern proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Warriors. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won 16 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Eastern pushed their record up to 24-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Wabash, their victory bumped their record up to 11-14.

Wabash took their win against Eastern in their previous meeting back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Apaches since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
