Basketball Recap: Sevier County Takes a Loss

Sevier County blew Cocke County out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Cocke County got their revenge. The Sevier County Smoky Bears fell just short of the Cocke County Fighting Cocks by a score of 44-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Smoky Bears have suffered since December 19, 2024.

Cocke County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Blakelyn Clevenger, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karmine Carmichael, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

Sevier County's loss dropped their record down to 22-5. As for Cocke County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sevier County will head out to face off against Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Oak Ridge will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Sevier County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cocke County, they will venture away from home to challenge Greeneville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cocke County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season.
