Baseball Game Preview: Corcoran Panthers vs. Chavez Titans

The Corcoran Panthers will square off against the Chavez Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Corcoran sitting on 12 straight victories and Chavez on four.

Corcoran is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against McLane, sneaking past 3-1.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Chavez made sure to put some runs up on the board against Kern Valley on Wednesday. The Titans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Broncs a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Jayden Popoy, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Daniel Carrillo was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Corcoran's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Chavez, their win bumped their record up to 21-5.

Corcoran suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Chavez in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
