Softball Recap: Monday's Defeat Ends Lakota's Winning Streak

Lakota dropped their record down to 7-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 11-8 to the Gibsonburg Golden Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-6 on April 4th.

Lexi Moon and Kailynn Smith did some serious damage despite the final result: Moon went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Smith got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Chevelle Rubel, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

As for Gibsonburg, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Gibsonburg's side, Ava Amor was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Amor has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emily Henderson and Ansley Fleming did most of the damage at the plate: Henderson went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Fleming went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Mia Brink was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Lakota has already played their next game, a 17-10 defeat against Hopewell-Loudon on the 30th. As for Gibsonburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 4-2 loss against New Riegel on the 30th.
