Baseball Game Preview: West Anchorage Eagles vs. Eagle River Wolves

West Anchorage hasn't had much luck against Eagle River recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will host the Wolves at 7:15 p.m.

West Anchorage is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Chugiak, who was ranked 15th at the time (West Anchorage was ranked 17th). The Eagles fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by just one run.

Meanwhile, Eagle River was able to grind out a solid win over Chugiak on Monday, taking the game 9-5. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Liam Lierman was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Christian (CJ) Budeshefsky was another key player, earning two runs and three stolen bases.

This is the second loss in a row for West Anchorage and nudges their season record down to 2-8. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Eagle River, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Anchorage has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eagle River struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
