Softball Recap: Hugoton Takes a Loss

Hugoton extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-7. They fell 4-0 to the Stanton County Trojans. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 18-2 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Hugoton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Neftali Tinoco, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Stanton County, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.

On Stanton County's side, the result came thanks to Kaydence McCleary's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks. McCleary has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kynzi Fehringer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Summer Kendrick, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Stanton County beat Hugoton by a score of 2-1 later that day.
