Basketball Game Preview: Staunton River Golden Eagles vs. Liberty Minutemen

The Staunton River Golden Eagles just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Liberty Minutemen at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Staunton River is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Staunton River was beaten by Fleming 64-33. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Colonels are ranked 93rd).

Meanwhile, Liberty was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 58-57 to Rustburg. The Minutemen haven't had much luck with the Red Devils recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Staunton River, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Staunton River beat Liberty 63-56 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Liberty's Carter Robertson, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 15 points.
