Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Christian's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

Cornerstone Christian entered their matchup against Austin on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Cornerstone Christian Warriors took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Austin Maroons. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Maroons are ranked 246th).

Despite the loss, Cornerstone Christian still got an impressive performance from Yasmeen Schmidt, who went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points. Schmidt's afternoon made it 37 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Bailey, who posted nine points and six boards.

Jillian Shirk was her usual excellent self, putting up 15 points along with seven boards and seven steals for Austin. Shirk is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Foley Anderson was another key player, posting eight points and six rebounds.

Cornerstone Christian's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 22-6. As for Austin, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-8.

Cornerstone Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-37 win against St. Michael's on the 4th. As for Austin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bowie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Austin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.
