Volleyball Recap: RJ Gabut-Rivas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead El Camino over Oceanside

El Camino was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Oceanside Pirates. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pirates earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

El Camino actually scored more points across those five sets (104-96), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 14-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-10.

El Camino lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was RJ Gabut-Rivas, who had 19 digs and one assist. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Brown-Ledesma, who had ten assists and eight digs.

El Camino's record now sits at 12-15. As for Oceanside, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

Looking ahead, El Camino is taking a road trip to challenge Fallbrook at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oceanside, they have already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Point Loma on the 21st.
