Basketball Recap: Lejeune Takes a Loss

Lejeune lost against Northside - Pinetown back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Lejeune Devil Pups were beaten by the Northside - Pinetown Panthers 65-27. While losing is never fun, the Devil Pups can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 543rd, while the Panthers are ranked 180th).

Despite the loss, Lejeune still got an impressive performance from Scarlett McLean, who posted five points and eight steals. That's the most steals McLean has posted since back in February of 2024. Alyssa Arce also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

It was another big night for Olivia Jane Cahoon, who went 10 of 16 on her way to 23 points along with seven steals and six boards for Northside - Pinetown. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cahoon has scored at least a third of Northside - Pinetown's points. Tatianna Moore was another key player, going 8 for 13 en route to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Lejeune has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Northside - Pinetown, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lejeune will take on Pamlico County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pamlico County will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Lejeune surely won't give up without a fight. As for Northside - Pinetown, they will square off against Southside at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Northside - Pinetown's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
