Baseball Recap: Benson Gets the Win

Benson's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Morenci Wildcats 4-3. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Rawley Evans made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Evans wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jason Santo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Santo is becoming a predictor of Benson's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 3-0-1 (and 10-11 when he doesn't).

Benson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Benson's win bumped their record up to 13-11-1. As for Morenci, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-14 record.

Benson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 8-3 defeat against Round Valley on the 23rd. As for Morenci, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-2 victory against St. Augustine Catholic on the 24th.
