Basketball Game Preview: Sachse Mustangs vs. Wylie Pirates

The Sachse Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Wylie Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Sachse is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Garland: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Sachse's way against Garland on Tuesday as Sachse made off with a 67-45 victory. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while the Owls are ranked 1233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brayden Banks was nothing short of spectacular: he went 9 for 13 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Young, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Wylie entered their tilt with North Garland on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 68-58 win over the Raiders.

Sachse's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-13. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28 points. As for Wylie, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

Sachse came out on top in a nail-biter against Wylie when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 76-74. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sachse since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
