Football Preview: Oviedo Lions vs. Wekiva Mustangs

The Oviedo Lions will stay at home for another week and welcome the Wekiva Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oviedo knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Wekiva likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Oviedo blew past Lyman, posting a 49-14 victory at home. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 35 points or more this season.

Chance Nixon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rushing yards. Jerome Curry was another key player, rushing for 15 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Oviedo's defense and their four sacks. Samari Chisolm was especially locked on to Lyman's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in Lyman's side was Brady Manning, who made 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended a pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Meanwhile, Wekiva was beaten by Lee County 62-17 on Friday. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-17.

Oviedo's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Wekiva, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
