Baseball Game Preview: Carmel Christian Cougars vs. Union Academy Cardinals

The Carmel Christian Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Union Academy Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Carmel Christian has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Cougars on Thursday. Carmel Christian fell just short of Oakton by a score of 4-3.

Anderson Rider was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Carmel Christian saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Williams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Union Academy posted their closest win since March 11th on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Corvian Community 8-6. The win continues a trend for Union Academy in their matchups with Corvian Community: they've now won three in a row.

Aiden Mills and Ethan Edwards did most of the damage at the plate: Mills went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Edwards went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Mills a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Rowe, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Union Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Carmel Christian now has a losing record of 8-9-1. As for Union Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.

Carmel Christian suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Union Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
