Football Game Preview: Spearman Lynx vs. New Deal Lions

The Spearman Lynx will head out to challenge the New Deal Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Spearman has given up an average of 26.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Spearman is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since August 29th on Friday. They were beaten by Panhandle 67-12. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Lynx's biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Despite the defeat, Spearman got top-tier performance from Brayson Goodheart, who rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries. Goodheart also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Deal). Their defense stepped up to hand Floydada a 62-0 shutout on Friday. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 507th, while the Whirlwinds are ranked 1195th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

New Deal is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.6 points over those games. As for Spearman, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
