            Baseball Recap: Washington Township Senators vs. Merrillville Pirates        
        
		
        
        
            Washington Township's game  last Monday was a  loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them  on Monday. They came out on top against the Merrillville Pirates by a score of  5-2. The Senators haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive  victory against them.

 Destin Billings and  Drew Horvath made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing,  Billings   struck out ten batters over  five innings while giving up just one earned  (and one unearned) run off   two  hits. Meanwhile,  Horvath   pitched two innings while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits. Billings has become a key player for Washington Township: the team is 4-1 when he allows at  most  one  earned run, but 2-3-1 otherwise. At the plate,  Billings  got on base  in all four of his plate appearances with two  RBI and one  double, while  Horvath  got on base  in three of his four plate appearances with one  stolen base, one  run,  and one  RBI. That's the most  RBI  Billings has posted since back in May of 2024.
 In other batting news,  the team  relied heavily on  Gavin Kukler, who  went 1-for-2 with two  stolen bases and one  run.  Owen Gilbert was another key player,  earning one  run and two  stolen bases.
Washington Township's record now sits at 6-4-1. As for Merrillville, their loss was  their third straight on the road, which  dropped their record down to 3-12.
 Washington Township has already played their next matchup,  an  8-1  win against Westville on the 7th. As for Merrillville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next  contest,  an  11-2  defeat against La Porte on the 6th.
