Basketball Game Preview: Scituate Spartans vs. Middletown Islanders

The Scituate Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Middletown Islanders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Scituate has five straight wins, Middletown has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Scituate is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Mt. Hope, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Scituate was ranked fifth). Scituate walked away with a 45-36 victory over Mt. Hope on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Middletown lost 47-21 to East Greenwich on Wednesday.

Scituate pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Middletown, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.

Everything came up roses for Scituate against Middletown in their previous matchup back in January of 2020, as the squad secured a 52-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Scituate since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
