Basketball Recap: Phillips Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

There's no place like home for Phillips, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They strolled past the Westinghouse Warriors with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 47-28. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while the Warriors are ranked 480th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Phillips found their leader in sophomore Messiah Horton, who posted 12 points along with six boards and five steals. Johnathon Duncan was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Phillips was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Phillips pushed their record up to 5-5 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Westinghouse, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Phillips didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-47 loss against Curie on the 19th. Westinghouse will take on Chapel Hill in a holiday battle at at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
