Softball Recap: Wake Forest Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Wake Forest walked away with it. They never let the Panther Creek Catamounts get on the board and left with a 9-0 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jil Livengood was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kaylee Bowers was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Mia Spahlinger was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Wake Forest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.

Wake Forest pushed their record up to 18-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Panther Creek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Wake Forest will take on Corinth Holders on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 1.4, the Pirates 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Panther Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
