Volleyball Recap: Garfield Extends Winning Streak to Five

Garfield waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Berkshire Badgers. The game was the first time the G-Men have beaten the Badgers on their court since October 26, 2016.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Garfield who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 27-29, 25-21.

Mandy Cardinal paced Garfield's offense, picking up 15 kills. Cardinal got some help from Tenley Korosec and her 19 assists. Finally, Cardinal was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high five blocks.

When it comes to explaining why Berkshire lost, don't look at Ava Chuha. Despite the final result, she had 15 assists and seven digs. Bailey Hunter also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Garfield's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Berkshire, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.

Garfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Edgewood on the 20th. As for Berkshire, they have also already played their next game, a 2-1 win against Villa Angela-St. Joseph on the 20th.
