Baseball Game Preview: Smith-Cotton Tigers vs. Battle Spartans

For the second straight game, Smith-Cotton will face off against Battle. The Tigers will host the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Smith-Cotton barely beat Battle the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 10-4 victory on Tuesday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jakobe Linn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Smith-Cotton is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 12-14 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Smith-Cotton got a massive performance out of Cooper Woolery, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. What's more, Woolery posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Kendall Hagedorn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

Smith-Cotton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

The victory got Smith-Cotton back to even at 16-16. As for Battle, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-18.
