Softball Recap: Waverly Tigers vs. Portsmouth Trojans
Waverly couldn't beat Portsmouth on Friday even though they stacked five runs on them in the seventh inning. The Tigers fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 7-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost four in a row.
Lexi Smith put in work no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double.
In other batting news, Addi Hudnell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Karley Hignite also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Waverly's record is now 11-14. As for Portsmouth, the win got them back to even at 12-12.
Looking ahead, Waverly will square off against McClain at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
