Baseball Recap: Round Lake Takes a Loss

Round Lake had lost six straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-16 to make it seven. They lost 13-1 to the Wauconda Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 9-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Javier Rolon was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Wauconda, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Wauconda's side, Patrick Shannon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. Shannon has become a key player for the Bulldogs: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 9-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luke Sickmeir, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Brody Rudolph also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

While Round Lake had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
