Football Game Preview: Independence Falcons vs. Highland Scots + How To Watch

The Independence Falcons will face off against the Highland Scots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Highland took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Independence, who comes in off a win.

Highland better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Independence's game on Friday is any indication, that's when Independence really gets things going. The Falcons simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ridgeview 42-12. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won five contests by 25 points or more so far this season.

Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jakhai Ervin, who rushed for 102 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Ervin has posted since back in November of 2024. Rickey Johnson was another key back, rushing for 77 yards and one TD.

Independence didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Ridgeview to a completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Ervin and Jeffery Smith, who each logged three passes deflected. Independence wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 36.4%.

Meanwhile, Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 34-0 loss at the hands of Bakersfield Christian. While losing is never fun, the Scots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 438th, while the Eagles are ranked 68th).

Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Independence, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
