Softball Game Preview: Holmes County Blue Devils vs. Arnold Marlins

The Holmes County Blue Devils will face off against the Arnold Marlins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Holmes County 3.4, Arnold 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Holmes County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Liberty County on Monday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Blue Devils have suffered since March 2, 2024.

Savannah Ludwig spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Holmes County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bri Adams, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Arnold unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Houston Academy by a score of 3-1.

Bre Clark was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk).

At the plate, Jayden Reyes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Arnold's loss dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Holmes County, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Holmes County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Arnold struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
