Baseball Recap: Waccamaw Gets the Win

Waccamaw took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Loris, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Warriors skirted past the Lions 6-4.

The team relied heavily on Ty Kerns, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Waccamaw: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Rostan Pate was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Waccamaw kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Waccamaw's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-11. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Loris, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Waccamaw will have a chance to go back-to-back against Loris: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
