Basketball Recap: I'kiriyah Minor's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southside over East Carteret

Southside was the 52-42 winner over East Carteret when they last played one another last Wednesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Southside Seahawks took a 59-43 bruising from the East Carteret Mariners on Friday.

Southside lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was I'Kiriyah Minor, who posted 18 points and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaliah Moore, who went 5 of 9 to rack up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Southside was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they've passed the ball that well.

East Carteret's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Baker, who put up 22 points. Those 22 points gave Baker a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lyrik Oliver, who scored 20 points.

Southside dropped their record down to 12-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for East Carteret, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-13.

Southside has already played their next matchup, a 51-27 victory against Jones on the 10th. As for East Carteret, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-38 win against Lejeune on the 11th.
