Basketball Recap: Ian Chayalkun's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Chevak over Hooper Bay

If Chevak was riding high fresh off their 80-34 takedown of Alakanuk on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chevak Comets took a 72-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hooper Bay Warriors on Saturday. Sadly, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-66 on Friday.

Several Comets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ian Chayalkun, who posted 20 points. Liam Pingayak-Green was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Hooper Bay got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Billy Smith out in front who had 22 points. The match was Smith's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daylon Tall, who scored 20 points.

Chevak's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Hooper Bay, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Chevak does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hooper Bay has also already played their next contest, an 81-37 victory against Alakanuk on the 25th.
