Calallen proved they can win big  last Friday (they won by 77) and  on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a  win as the  team sidled past the Tuloso-Midway Warriors & Cherokees  30-27. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Calallen's win  was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from   Connor Klostermann, who threw for 180 yards and one  touchdown, and also rushed for 37 yards and one  score.  Reese Rusher got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
 Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 18 in total.  Ian Perez delivered a perfect  3-3 game. One of the most memorable scores? An impressive kickoff return for a touchdown from  Rusher.
 On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Calallen's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess:  Josh Norval,  Kelby Broughton,  and  Larry Saenz, who each picked up one  sack apiece. Calallen got some further help from  Norval: he picked up  a  sack and made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
 Several Warriors & Cherokees players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was   Damian Figueroa, who rushed for 200 yards and one  TD while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Figueroa is  crushing it when it comes to  rushing yards: he's   rushed for at least 110 every time he's  taken the field this season.  Joaquin Trevino was another key player, throwing for 121 yards and a pair of  touchdowns.
Calallen's record is now 6-2. As for Tuloso-Midway, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 6-2.
 We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Calallen is set to  face off against  their familiar foe Zapata  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Meanwhile, Tuloso-Midway will  take on  rival Valley View  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday.
