Basketball Recap: Virginia City Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Virginia City and Smith Valley squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Virginia City had to settle for second. They came up short against the Smith Valley Bulldogs, falling 49-27. The Muckers' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Smith Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Slater out in front who posted 20 points. Slater continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Presley York, who put up eight points.

Virginia City's defeat dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Smith Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Virginia City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Smith Valley, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Pyramid Lake at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pyramid Lake knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 games -- so hopefully Smith Valley likes a good challenge.
