Football Recap: Calvary Baptist Skates Past Vista Meridian with Ease

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Calvary Baptist on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Vista Meridian Meridian Eagles out of the water with a 54-6 final score. With the Cougars ahead 42-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Calvary Baptist to victory, but perhaps none more so than Devin DeBuono, who threw for 133 yards and three TDs on only 12 passes. What's more, DeBuono racked up 15 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zaedik Mcphail, who picked up 116 receiving yards and one score.

Calvary Baptist's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Leading the way was Elijah Gomez with two sacks. Calvary Baptist got some further help from Noah Edwards: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 15 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Calvary Baptist has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 points this season. As for Vista Meridian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Calvary Baptist will face off against PAL Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Vista Meridian, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Villanova Prep at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th.
