Baseball Recap: West Valley Takes a Loss

West Valley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wasilla Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, with their most recent defeat being a 7-6 loss on Saturday.

Hudson Wixom made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season.

As for Wasilla, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games.

On Wasilla's side, Ramon Guzman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Guzman has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, LaLo PaLomares was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Hunter Delcour was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Valley will face off against Monroe Catholic on Tuesday. As for Wasilla, they will welcome South Anchorage at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolverines will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
