The Houston Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Millington Central Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Millington Central took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Houston, who comes in off a win.
Houston had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Bartlett on Monday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Panthers. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Madeleine McClure made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. McClure was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Lindsey Barnes was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Kaylea Howell was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Millington Central's offense. They fell 3-0 to Briarcrest Christian on Monday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Trojans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Houston's record is now 9-12. As for Millington Central, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13-1.
Houston's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Millington Central, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Houston continue to outrun the ball?
Houston came up short against Millington Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
