Basketball Recap: South Effingham Takes a Loss

South Effingham was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a blow against the Brunswick Pirates, falling 61-30. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while the Pirates are ranked 88th).

When it comes to explaining why South Effingham lost, don't look at Alayiah Lewis. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 boards.

Samyya Gilbert was nothing short of spectacular for Brunswick: she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most points Gilbert has posted since back in December of 2024. Lauryn Walker was another key player, going 5 for 12 en route to 10 points and five boards.

South Effingham's defeat dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Brunswick, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Brunswick beat South Effingham by a score of 53-24 on Monday.
