Softball Recap: Brownfield Cubs vs. Littlefield Wildcats

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Brownfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Littlefield Wildcats 10-9. The victory was just what Brownfield needed coming off of a 12-5 defeat in their prior game.

The team relied heavily on Payzlea Baumann, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 5-for-5. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Gutierrez, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI.

On Littlefield's side, Natalia Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Littlefield got a massive performance out of Brianna Aleman, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with a home run and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Milie Hernandez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 5-for-5.

Brownfield's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Littlefield, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.

Brownfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Littlefield, they will be playing at home against Muleshoe at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Muleshoe is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
