Maynard is 2-8 against Ayer Shirley since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Maynard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Maynard's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Bromfield hitters got past them. The Tigers lost 11-1 to the Trojans on Monday. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Maynard saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Cedeno, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ayer Shirley). They never let Narragansett Regional get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Monday. The Panthers have beaten the Warriors the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Warriors has come to flipping the script.
Tyler Cyr made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Ayer Shirley is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-5 otherwise. Cyr was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Kenny Lewis was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
Ayer Shirley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.
Maynard's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Ayer Shirley, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Ayer Shirley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Maynard hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. It's a different story for Ayer Shirley, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Maynard's hitters?
Maynard came out on top in a nail-biter against Ayer Shirley in their previous meeting on April 2nd, sneaking past 7-6. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
