Baseball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Snaps 12-Game Streak of Wins at Home

After flying high against Paradise Valley last Tuesday, Sunrise Mountain came back down to earth. The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs fell just short of the Verrado Vipers by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 8-6 to the Vipers when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Sunrise Mountain saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Heid, who scored a run while going 1-for-5. Logan Guilford also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Sunrise Mountain's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Verrado, they now have a winning record of 3-2-1.

Coming up, Sunrise Mountain will face off against Arizona College Prep at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Arizona College Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season. As for Verrado, they will host Lake Havasu at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Havasu also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 7.2 runs per game.
