Preview: Box Elder Bees vs. Roy Royals
Box Elder has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Roy Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Box Elder beat Clearfield 61-53.
Elijah Kersey continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Max Isaacson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Roy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 60-50 victory over Bountiful.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Roy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bronson Belnap, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Belnap has scored all season. Dahlen Pontius was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Box Elder has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season. As for Roy, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Wednesday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Kersey and Belnap. Kersey has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 18.9 points, 1.9 steals, and 4.1 assists. For his part, Belnap has averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 steals, and 5.4 assists.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Box Elder have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Roy, though, as they've been averaging only 23.1 rebounds per game. Given Box Elder's sizeable advantage in that area, Roy will need to find a way to close that gap.
