Baseball Recap: Carlisle County Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Carlisle County had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Mayfield Cardinals on Thursday as the Carlisle County Comets made off with a 16-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won nine in a row.

Jonah Bruer and Brennan O'Neill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bruer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, O'Neill tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Bruer gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Bruer went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while O'Neill scored three runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. That's the most hits Bruer has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Caysen Mitchell was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Koltyn Perez, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carlisle County will venture away from home to take on Paducah Tilghman at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mayfield, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Mayfield Cardinals duke it out with Murray Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. They have now lost nine straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 26.
