Football Recap: Chris Dunn Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Vallejo

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Concord walked away with it. They walked away with a 36-24 win over the Vallejo Redhawks on Friday. For the Bears, this counts as revenge for the 25-7 victory the Redhawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2021.

Concord's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Dunn, who rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 30 receiving yards. Dunn also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending one pass.

Concord didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Vallejo to a completion percentage of just 45.8%. The team can thank Andrew Lopez for the heroic effort on defense: he. Concord has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.64 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.64 in their last three games.

Concord's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Vallejo's QB won't forget Jake McCabe anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

When it comes to explaining why Vallejo lost, don't look at Elijah Peace. Despite the final result, he rushed for 101 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 104 yards and one touchdown.

Concord is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.3 points over those games. As for Vallejo, their record now sits at 7-4.

Coming up, Concord will square off against Middletown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' defense has only allowed 12.6 points per game this season, so the Bears' offense will have their work cut out for them. Vallejo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
