Basketball Recap: Blake Harris' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rocky Mountain Lutheran over Elbert

Rocky Mountain Lutheran lost against Elbert back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Rocky Mountain Lutheran Eagles came up short against the Elbert Bulldogs, falling 64-38. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 126th).

Rocky Mountain Lutheran lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Blake Harris, who went 6-for-13 on his way to 18 points and five boards. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zack Rice, who went 5-for-6 to rack up 10 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Rocky Mountain Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matches.

Rocky Mountain Lutheran has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. Elbert's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5.

Coming up, Rocky Mountain Lutheran will welcome Hi-Plains at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elbert, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Denver Waldorf at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Denver Waldorf is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season.
