Football Game Preview: Gretna Hawks vs. Floyd County Buffaloes + How To Watch

The Gretna Hawks will face off against the Floyd County Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Gretna is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Dan River 57-14. Considering the Hawks have won six matchups by more than 25 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Rayshaun Logan produced another solid effort throwing for 273 yards and four TDs while completing 78.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (156.3). Another player making a difference was Khalil Waller, who gained 218 total yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gretna was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive games.

Gretna didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Jayden Smith led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.

Meanwhile, Floyd County didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against James River on Friday, but they still walked away with a 26-21 win. The Buffaloes haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Gretna better keep an eye on Sam Phillips. He was instrumental in Floyd County's win, rushing for 138 yards and three scores.

Gretna's record now sits at 9-2. As for Floyd County, their record is now 8-3.

Gretna won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in November of 2023, slipping by Floyd County 28-27. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Phillips, who threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 52 yards and one TD.
